Frogs Top Bombers in 12

Battle Creek, Mich. – The Green Bay Bullfrogs (6-6, 24-22) traveled to Michigan after a doubleheader split with the Loggers. Green Bay did not shake off the bus lag until the second inning but found a way to beat the Battle Creek Bombers (1-10, 15-30), 5-4 in 12 innings.
After the Bullfrogs went down in order in the top of the first, the Bombers broke onto the scoreboard off Frogs starter Riley Tincher (UW-Whitewater). Parker Berberet (Oregon State) drove home Sean Deegan (Penn State) putting the Bombers up 1-0. Battle Creek would extend their lead to 3-0, after Andrew Lawrence hit a two-run homerun.
Green Bay would answer back in the top of the second inning. Joel Hutter (Dallas Baptist) drove home Scott Schebler (Wichita State) and Troy Scott (Washington) came around to score to putting the Bullfrogs down one, by a score of 3-2.
The game would stay 3-2 until the top of the eighth inning. Brad Zapenas (Boston College) doubled to start the inning for Green Bay and was driven home on a double by Troy Scott, tying the game at 3-3.
The game would stay tied until the top of the 12th inning when Green Bay broke the tie. With the bases loaded and two outs, Collin Kuhn (Arkansas) singled, which plated Ryan Kehl (St. Norbert) and Dan Putnam (UW-Whitewater) putting the Bullfrogs lead 5-3.
In the bottom of the 12th inning the Bombers first batter singled and advanced to second on a strike out. He was driven in by Brett Kauten (Spring Arbor) cutting the Bullfrogs lead to one, 5-4. Battle Creek had the tying run on third base with two outs but Deegan flew out to center to end the game. The Bullfrogs held on for a 5-4 victory.
Matthew Kimball (Brown) came out of the bullpen and picked up his third win of the year by tossing three innings of four hit ball and allowing one run. Green Bay was led at the plate by Dan Putnam, who was 3-5 on the night. A quartet of Bullfrogs had two hits.
The Bullfrogs and Bombers return to action Sunday to close out the two game series. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 P.M. central time. Tim Shibuya (UC-San Diego) is scheduled to pitch for the Bullfrogs. Don’t forget you can follow the Bullfrogs on Facebook and Twitter.
