Green Bay extended their lead in the bottom half of the second inning. After Schebler reached on a single to right, he proceeded to steal second base. Hutter drove home Schebler, putting the Bullfrogs up 5-0. After a walk to Jared Andreoli (Western Kentucky), Joe Betcher (Illinois-Chicago) drove home a run, extending the lead to 6-0. The lead was stretched to 7-0 after Andreoli scored on a wild pitch.
The Frogs offense did not let up from there and scored two more in the bottom of the fifth inning. Schebler doubled home one run and Hutter singled home a run to make it a 9-0 Green Bay lead.
The Bullfrogs added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Tom Barry (San Francisco). That would be enough for the Bullfrogs as pitchers Owen Jones (Portland) and Kris Edwards (St. Thomas) combined to only allow the Rafters to get two hits. The Bullfrogs offense pounded out 14 hits in game one.
Jones picked up the win for the Frogs going five innings, allowing the two hits and no runs. Edwards pitched two innings in relief, not allowing a hit. The Bullfrogs were lead at the plate by Troy Scott (Washington) and Hutter, who had three hits apiece.
Game two, the Bullfrogs starter, Matthew Kimball (Brown) eased through the first two innings only throwing 12 pitches. He ran into some trouble with the Rafters order in the top of the third. The key hit for the Rafters came on a two RBI single by Jenzen Torrez (Cal Poly Pomona). The Rafters scored four in the inning putting them ahead 4-0.
The Bullfrogs rallied back in the bottom half of the inning. Collin Kuhn (Arkansas) lead off the inning with a solo homerun to left field. With two outs, Schebler doubled and Troy Scott followed with a single that plated Schebler putting the Frogs down by two, 4-2. Hutter hit a ground rule double that plated Scott, putting the Frogs down 4-3. Betcher looked to have the game tying hit on a single to right but Hutter was thrown out at home.
Green Bay would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ryan Kehl (St. Norbert) scored on a double by Kuhn, tying the game at 4-4. Zapenas followed with a double of his own scoring Kuhn, and putting the Frogs up 5-4. Barry doubled to straight away center plating, Zapenas and the Frogs lead grew to 6-4. The Bullfrogs added one more in the inning to go ahead 7-4.
After the completion of the fifth inning, game two was suspended due to a Northwoods League rule, stating that you cannot start an inning after 12:50 A.M. The game will be finished when Wisconsin Rapids returns to Green Bay on August 2nd.
The Bullfrogs return to action tomorrow when they travel to Wausau to take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. Don’t forget you can follow the Bullfrogs on Facebook and Twitter.
