Wausau, Wis. – In the final game of the Green Bay Bullfrogs (4-5, 22-21) and Wisconsin Woodchucks (7-3, 25-20) series, the Bullfrogs got some revenge. They beat the Woodchucks, 8-0 after losing twice to them this week.
The Bullfrogs broke the Woodchuck’s starter, Brock Stassi’s (Nevada) no hitter that he had going when Troy Scott (Washington) singled, following a walk to Brad Zapenas (Boston College). With two runners on base, Scott Schebler (Wichita State) singled, scoring Zapenas from second , putting the Frogs ahead 1-0. Joel Hutter (Dallas Baptist) followed with a single of his own, scoring Troy Scott. This extended Green Bay’s lead to 2-0. The Bullfrogs tacked two more runs on in the inning to go ahead 4-0.
Green Bay added to their lead in the top of the sixth inning. Schebler lead the inning off with a double. Hutter followed with a double, scoring Schebler, which put the Frogs ahead 5-0. Hutter scored when Joe Betcher (Illinois-Chicago) hit a sacrifice fly, putting Green Bay up 6-0. The Frogs added one more run in the inning. They led 7-0 after five and a half innings were complete.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Bullfrogs added one more insurance run to the board. After Ryan Kehl (St. Norbert) singled, he came around to score on a Zapenas fielder’s choice, putting the Frogs ahead 8-0.
Joel Delorit (UW-Stevens Point) made the start for the Bullfrogs. He tossed three innings of no hit balls. Matthew Kimball (Brown) came out of the bullpen in relief of Delorit. He picked up the win by pitching five innings of six hit balls and allowing no runs. Keeler Brynteson (Portland) pitched a perfect ninth to keep the Bullfrogs shut out in tact.
The Bullfrogs were lead at the plate by Hutter, who was 4-5 with two RBI on the evening. Schebler and Betcher both collected two hits in the game.
The Bullfrogs return to action following the all-star game on July 22, when the La Crosse Loggers come to Joannes Stadium. July 22 is also College Night, where if you show a valid college ID, you can buy one get one FREE reserved seat tickets. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M.
