North Beats South, 7-5

Eau Claire, Wis. – The South Division’s two-game winning streak came to an end in the Northwoods League All-Star Game,as the North Division All-Stars beat the South Division All-Stars by a score of 7-5.  
 
The North jumped out to a fast lead on the South. In the top of the first inning, the North scored two runs on two hits to go ahead 2-0.
 
The South battled back in the bottom of the second inning. After cutting the lead to 2-1, Green Bay Bullfrogs shortstop Brad Zapenas (Boston College) tied the game at 2-2 on a double.
 
The game would not stay tied for long. The Duluth Huskies’ Cody Asche (Nebraska) hit a two-run homerun to put the North back on top at 4-2. The North was not done extending their lead. They plated another run on a sacrifice fly to extend their lead to 5-2.
 
The South answered back in the bottom half of the inning by scoring one run. Scott Schebler (Wichita State) scored on a double by Harold Riggins (Madison, NC State). This put the South down 5-3.
 
The South would keep inching back as they scored one in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly that scored Adam Davis (Madison, Illinois), narrowing the gap to 5-4. They tied the game in the bottom half of the sixth inning when Zapenas singled in Steven McGuiggan (Eau Claire, UIC).
 
The game stayed tied at 5-5 until the top of the seventh inning when the North scored two runs off of pitcher Joe Battistelli (Battle Creek, Eastern Michigan). That put the North ahead 7-5.
 
The game would end with the North winning 7-5. Battistelli picked up the loss for the South, as he pitched two thirds of an inning and allowed two runs on two hits. Arik Sikula (Rochester, Marshall) picked up the win.
 
Asche was named the ‘Star of Stars’ in the game going 2-4 with a two-run homerun.
 
Bullfrogs Stats:
Scott Schebler (Wichita State) started in Right Field and was 1-1 with a run scored and one walk.
Brad Zapenas (Boston College) started at shortstop and was 2-4 with two RBIs.
Brad Schreiber (Purdue) pitched one inning in relief, did not allow a hit, and struck out one.
Riley Tincher (UW-Whitewater) pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief, did not allow a hit, and struck out one.
