Green Bay, Wis. – The Green Bay Bullfrogs (7-8, 25-24) were looking to find a way to break the losing streak to the Eau Claire Express (13-4, 35-16). The Bullfrogs struggles continued as they lost to the Express 11-5.
The Express jumped on the board first in the top of the second inning. Cal Towey (Baylor) walked to start the inning and came around to score on a single by Andrew Leonard (UIC) putting the Express up 1-0.
The lead did not last long for the Express as the Bullfrogs tied the game in the bottom of the second inning. Jared Andreoli (Western Kentucky) singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Joe Betcher, (Illinois-Chicago) tying the game at 1-1.
The Express answered back in the top of the third with three runs. Towey drove home Lucas Herbst, (Santa Clara) breaking the tie. Nate Baumann (Augustana) drove home two more on a single to extend the Express’ lead to 4-1.
Green Bay answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning. After Collin Kuhn (Arkansas) was retired to start the inning the next two hits singled to put two runners on base for Scott Schebler (Wichita State). Schebler hit a three-run homerun as he broke his bat to tie the game at 4-4.
Eau Claire broke the tie in the top of the sixth inning. Two runs came around to score on a throwing error by Eric Van Beck (UW-Stevens Point). Those would be the only runs the Express would get but they would take a 6-4 lead.
The Express kept the runs coming in the top of the seventh inning as they batted ten players in the inning. On the help of two Bullfrogs errors, the Express plated four runs. This made their lead 10-4.
The Bullfrogs got a run back in the bottom of the seventh inning. Troy Scott (Washington) doubled and was driven home by Joel Hutter, (Dallas Baptist) putting the Frogs down 10-5.
The Express would take one run in the top of the ninth inning on a double by Towey that scored DeMarcus Tidwell (Yavapai). The Bullfrogs did not have an answer in the bottom of the ninth inning and lost to the Express, 11-5.
Van Beck took the loss for the Bullfrogs, going five innings, allowing six runs, four earned, on ten hits. The Bullfrogs were lead at the plate by Brad Zapenas (Boston College) and Troy Scott, with two hits apiece. Schebler led the team with three RBI.
